In 'You Don't Have to Live Like a Referee', Homer is fast-tracked as a World Cup referee and immediately approached by shadowy FIFA officials dangling cash in exchange for fixed match results. In May 2015 — one year after the episode aired — US federal prosecutors indicted 14 FIFA officials on charges of racketeering, wire fraud, and bribery totalling over $150 million in payments across three decades.
